Argentina forms the southernmost portion of South America and is the second-largest country in Latin America. It is located between the South Atlantic and the South Pacific Oceans. On the north the country is boarded by Bolivia and Paraguay, on the south - by Chile, on the east - by Brazil and Uruguay. Geographically the territory of the country is divided into six regions: the Pampas, the North-West, Cuyo, the North-East, Mesopotamia, the Patagonia and South Atlantic Islands, Malvinas being the largest. The terrain of Argentina is made up mostly of Low or Flatlands, although it also features some major mountain ranges. The Cerro Aconcagua is the highest point above sea level in Argentina, it is located in Mendoza. Major rivers in Argentina are the Pilcomayo, the Paraguay, the Bermejo, the Colorado, and some others. The country is characterized by a variety of climates. It is predominantly temperate, changing from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the far south.
